Well Water Purification Systems – Do You Need One?

Have you ever thought about the water in your well? Where it comes from? How many dangerous contaminates may be lurking in it? Have you thought about needing a well water purification system?

I grew up on a farm, and we had a well. I never gave the well much thought, but then I was just a child so why would I. The pump house was not somewhere I could play at, so I didn’t even think about what was in there.

I didn’t even know that well water purification was something that needed to be considered, because I didn’t know what it was. At that young age I didn’t know the difference between safe water and unsafe water. I just happily drank the water that was pumped into my house. The only time I thought about water was when the pipes would freeze and I couldn’t drink any water or take a bath.

Now that I’ve grown up I know there are dangerous contaminates in well water. The run off from the fields contain weed killers, pesticides, and other dangerous chemicals that get into the water supply that affects the well water.

If well water isn’t tested during the weeks following the application of those chemicals, even a report from a certified water testing company won’t show the full extent of contamination. Having your water tested is a good thing to do, so you know what is in your water. Just be sure to have it tested at different seasons of the year, so you have an accurate reading.

Since all well owners need to add chlorine to kill the parasites and other bacteria in the water you definitely need a well water purification unit inside your home, because chlorine is linked to cancer and heart disease. There are three models you should be considering, either a whole house unit, or a kitchen sink filter for drinking water and a shower filter for water you bathe and shower with.

The whole house unit will filter everything, so if you choose that one you will have all your water needs covered. If you choose to filter at the kitchen sink for water you drink, you also should look into a shower filter. The water you use to bathe and shower in also needs filtered.

It is estimated that a 10-minute shower will take on 10 to 50 times the amount of dangerous chemicals than drinking a glass of the same water. Also the vapors from the water contain chloroform gases, which are hazardous to health. Those vapors are linked to asthma and also nervous system disorders.

When shopping for well water purification, find a system that has a carbon filter and a sub micron filter with a multi block filter that also contains an ion exchange for the heavy metals. These four medias together will remove all contaminates in your well water, so you can stay one step closer to good health.
